The front window

In the east-facing street window there is a ten-foot by four-foot living-soil bed. A tree-trunk rock sculpture with multiple cascade mouths runs water down through it. Twenty-nine plants and a baby’s-tears carpet cover about thirty square feet — snake plant, dracaena, lemongrass, rosemary, lavender and sage in the sun band at the glass; aloe, ZZ and spider plant through the middle; cast iron plant, Chinese evergreen, bird’s nest fern, Boston fern, pothos and philodendron in the shade behind.

It runs on east window light alone. No grow lights. Pest control is BTI — a bacterium, not a chemical — because the bed sits next to food and we weren’t about to spray anything in a room where we sell raw dairy.

It is the first thing you’ll see and the reason people stop walking.

Finding us

We’re on McHenry Avenue, just north of downtown Modesto. Street parking out front. We’re a short drive from Ceres, Salida, Riverbank, Oakdale and Turlock.

Free local pickup during store hours — order online, choose Pickup at 429 McHenry Ave at checkout, and we’ll have it ready.

Can’t make it in? We’ll come to you.

We deliver the whole store — raw milk, meat, eggs, bread, pantry, skincare — to any door within 5 miles of the shop. $7 flat, free over $100, $35 minimum. Order by 3 PM and it arrives that evening after 7. We run the route Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday; Thursday we’re at the farmers market and Sunday we’re closed.

Beef shares

Quarter, half and whole animals — grass-finished, organic grain-finished or certified organic, every animal raised without added hormones, antibiotics or vaccines. Reserve one on the beef shares page or call the store and we’ll walk you through the cut sheet.

What we can’t mail you

Raw dairy, fresh meat, eggs, ferments and everything refrigerated can’t be shipped — federal law prohibits raw milk crossing state lines, and cold-chain items belong in a cooler, not a cardboard box on a truck. But they can all be delivered locally or picked up in store, held cold the whole way.
