Local Makers

Consignment goods with a face attached. The woodworker down the road, the baker across town, soap from a goat herd in Waterford, plants potted by hand. Every maker on this shelf is someone we have met.

Why we give up shelf space to it. A store like this could fill every inch with distributor product at better margins. We don't, because a local maker is accountable in a way a supply chain never is — you can ask them what's in it and they know, because they made it this week. When you buy from this shelf, most of the money goes straight back to a household within a short drive of the shop, and the person who made it usually hears about it by the end of the day.

It also means the selection moves. Small makers make what the season and their hands allow. If something here is gone, ask — there is usually more coming.

Cowhide Accessories for hand-cut hide goods. Clarice the Red Cow for children's books and plush. Radical Jill's, Journey Seamoss, Nala's Juice and Happy Fungi Fusion for the cold case.

Most of the fresh items here are local delivery or in-store pickup — bread does not travel well in a box.
